Fostering Leadership
Through education, mentorship, and self development, Kyamba supports leaders who inspire others and create lasting community impact.
Alpine Valleys Community Leadership
The Foundation’s partnership with Alpine Valleys Community Leadership (AVCL) stems from John Graham Brown’s long-standing relationship with the organisation. As a founding board member, and now Patron, John G has been instrumental in championing AVCL’s mission to grow the voice and leadership capacity of North-East Victorian people and communities since its establishment in 1998. Kyamba has proudly supported Alpine Valleys Community Leadership since 2017.

Annual Leadership Program
For several years, Kyamba supported AVCL’s flagship Annual Leadership Program, and more recently enabled the inclusion of a series of Community Projects. This addition gave participant teams the opportunity to identify, scope, and deliver meaningful projects for their communities, while building new skills, confidence and networks. Two such examples, from the 2022 program, are shown here:
‘A Chair to Share’: three park benches in community spaces within Rural City of Wangaratta, Towong Shire Council and Indigo Shire Council. The park benches advocate and supports Mental Health in individuals of all ages, creating a space for community members to sit, alone or with a friend, and reflect, speak up and be present.
‘Team Green Tape’: delivered an activation event on the Great Valley Trail in Freeburgh, highlighting the barriers to activating the Great Valley Trail, along with options to address the problem which affects rail and cycle trails across the whole of North East Victoria. This allowed stakeholders to view and experience the issue first-hand and discuss pathways to finding a solution.

Digital Mentoring Project
In 2025, Kyamba supported AVCL in delivering a digital mentoring program designed to build digital skills and confidence among volunteer-led community groups across North-East Victoria. This initiative project directly addressed the digital literacy challenges that often limit the effectiveness and reach of volunteer-led community groups, equipping them with practical knowledge to use digital tools in their day-to-day operations and freeing up valuable time to focus on their core missions.

Youthrive Victoria
We are delighted to help young rural Victorians develop and explore their potential, and thrive while doing so, through Youthrive!
Rural Chances Scholarships
Kyamba has supported young people from North-East Victoria through Youthrive Victoria's Rural Chances Scholarships program, since its launch in 2017. These scholarships inspire and enable young rural Victorians, particularly those who may not be able to afford post-secondary education, as they embrace learning and personal growth through the completion of a training qualification. Financial support helps young people overcome barriers such as long distance travel or relocation to complete their qualifications, while Youthrive Victoria's wrap around care model further strengthens their journey through leadership development, social connection and mentoring opportunities.
Branch Out Mentoring Program
In 2025, Kyamba also provided significant support for the expansion of Youthrive Victoria's Branch Out Mentoring program in North-East Victoria. The Branch Out Mentoring program is a small group, peer-led initiative designed to support local Year 12 students to increase their life skills, knowledge and capacity as they prepare for the transition from high school into further education, vocational training, or the workforce.
